Star of the Sea School

We are a co-educational, primary, parish school serving the needs of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish at Henley Beach, South Australia. We are a beachside school with an enrolement of 510 students, located on Seaview Road in the heart of beautiful Henley Beach, a popular suburb West of Adelaide.

The school was established nearly one hundred years ago by the Sisters of Mercy who conducted the school from a small cottage known as the Star of the Sea. During the last century the school has at one point been a high school, but for some time now the school has a strong specific primary school focus. Star of the Sea School was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1912. In recent years, and building on the foundation of the Mercy Sisters the school has embraced the charism of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) Priests who have governed the parish and school for more than 50 years. We are immensely proud of both the Mercy tradition and the Spirituality of the Heart charism that comes from our MSC leaders.

At Star of the Sea School we proudly implement a cutting edge, contemporary primary curriculum which is strongly influenced by a healthy environmental beach lifestyle. Music, Sports and Marine Studies are stand out features of Star of the Sea School and we are very proud hosts of the international acclaimed Marine Discovery Centre in South Australia.

Fundraising for Catholic Charities.
Star of the Sea pupils recently had their Mission Week when they learned about Catholic Social Justice principles. Alyssa Scott wrote a lovely letter to Catholic Charities telling us about their week - which had a theme of ’Many hands make light work'. On Thankful Tuesday they did 'Active hands and Active Hearts coming together'. On Trading Thursday they brought a pre-loved book to trade in their Buy - Swap - Sell. On 'Fossicking Friday' the students fossicked for rubbish down on the beach - using their hands to clean up the environment. They raised over $1500 for Catholic Charities.

Catholic Charities thanks Alyssa and her class mates for all their hard work!
